My fiance is having a problem where ever since she's upgraded to SP3 her jaws won't read certain things. These include combo boxes and passwords while in forms mode and a few banking sites that are divided in to frames. She is using Jaws 9 and IE 7. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or should she just downgrade. I recently upgraded my computer but am using Jaws 8 and IE 6 and have not had any problems. her display settings are normal and there are no backgrounds or screen savers though there used to be.
Hmmm, not really sure. There are a few things you could play around with. FS has certain display settings that they recommend for jaws. You can find these under the help menu of jaws, something about recommended settings for XP. Not sure exactly how it's worded, but that should be enough information to get you where you need to be. Also, you could look at your accessibility settings. Play around just a bit with the blinkrate and cursor width. You could also look at your mouse propperties and play with the mouse pointer and skeem. sorry I can't give you any exact information. When this stuff happens to me, I just keep trying all kinds of different settings until I get it to work.
Thanks. I am the person who's having this problem. I'll see about messing with that stuff. I've tried doing many un-jaws related things to fix this issue and none of them have really solved the problem. I've messed with the display and screen resolutions, but I'll see about finding the mouse pointing thingy and curser width and looking at those. The weird thing is when I go to my bank website, it's like the page loads, but Jaws isn't reading it because I can hear my computer moving. It used to work with service pack 2 and even for a tiny bit with service pack three, but now it doesn't. Same with the passwowrds and combo boxes. it's very strange and frustrating. Anyway, I'll check those things out.
Thanks,
Dawnielle
She could try using alt and down arrow once when she's in a combobox then going down or up with the arrows like you normally would. That works for me.
Is she running the latest version of 9 (9.0.2169 when I last checked)? To check, press JawsKey+J to open the JAWS window, then do a sayLine (JawsKey+UpArrow). If not, have her go to Help>Check for Updates... and download that update.
I've been having the same problems since I upgraded to IE 7 yesterday. I've checked all the things mentioned above, and so far, nothing has fixed the problem.
Well updating Jaws did help the problem with the passwords and the alt down arro does help the combo box situation, so that's two things taken care of.
*pukes* internet destroyer 7? no wonder... switch to firefox. Sp3 really didn't make any difference as far as security and the like, just 'cause I guess being behind a router works. I think it also helps if you try to switch or expreiment with the MSAA mode on the advanced options on the configuration dialog for the list boxes problem.
For anyoen else having this issue if "show clear type" is on turn it off. That, for what ever reason makes jaws much much nicer! LOL
HTH someone.
Cheers. I'll turn Clear Type off right now, lmfao. I've found JAWS sometimes very unresponsive when using it with IE7 and Vista. Maybe that was the reason why.
Jen.
I agree with what juan said, switch to firefox.
yes, firefox is rally good espcially if you have jaws 9 or higher
Firefox works with JAWS 8 and lower again as well.
Firefox is awesome!
